Roland 08c5c233c8 ui: semantic roles, so night and amber can tell severity apart at all
A component now asks for what a colour MEANS -- `danger` -- and the theme
decides how that looks. Five roles: neutral, info, success, warning, danger.

The names are the ones already in the tree. `--primary/--success/--warning/
--danger` were declared in tokens.css with ZERO consumers, and `MessageKind`
was already `info|success|warning|error`; this is one vocabulary instead of
three. `error` stays a valid kind because 26 call sites write it, and `danger`
is the same thing under the token's name for new code.

The token set is the easy half. Light and dark spend a hue per role. Night is
red and nothing else and amber is amber and nothing else, and there a role has
to be a step on a BRIGHTNESS ramp -- which is why this was worth doing:

night --orange is byte-identical to --text
         --yellow is byte-identical to --amber
amber the same collisions, one hue over

A call site picking between hue names in those themes is picking between
synonyms. That is why all four toast kinds were the same pixel in night, and
why an error and an informational message were indistinguishable.

Both ramps are built rather than copied: every role clears 3:1 on the panel
(neutral is allowed lower -- for pending and disabled, dim IS the signal),
severity is strictly increasing in contrast, and danger reaches that theme's
own --text brightness so the loudest role is never quieter than prose. Amber
needed its own scale, not night's: its --text is 8.6:1 where night's is 5.0:1,
so night's ramp would have left every role dimmer than ordinary text.

Fixes in passing: night's info was 2.29:1, under the 3:1 floor. And Status
loses its three `html[data-theme="night"]` overrides entirely -- it was the one
component already encoding severity by brightness by hand, and the roles are
that generalised.

Roles are registered as Mantine colors too, so `color='danger'` works anywhere
`color='red'` does.

`isMonochromeTheme` is a new predicate in themes/names. It is the same set as
`explicitOnlyThemes` today and deliberately separate: one is about how a theme
is chosen, the other about what a theme has to work with.

Scope: tokens plus the library. The ~24 app-level `color='...'` call sites are
a follow-up -- they need a judgement per site, and two of them already disagree
(Downloads.js colours the same "Download error" label `orange` on one line and
`red` on another). The 22 `violet` uses are not semantic at all and stay hues.

Tests: the ramp claims are asserted per theme in a browser, and the ordering
and danger-vs-text claims run ONLY for the monochrome themes -- in light, blue
is darker than green on white, so a brightness ramp there would fail a design
that is perfectly fine. Every guard checked red against a planted regression,
including the original bug (warning and danger collapsed to one value in night)
and night's info back at its old 2.29:1.

The roles were folded into each theme's own block rather than kept in a
standalone one, so the existing "same tokens in every theme" and "only red hues
in night" guards cover them for free.

WROLPi Logo

WROLPi is a self-contained collection of software to help you survive the world Without Rule of Law.

WROLPi is intended to be run on a Raspberry Pi with an optional external drive attached. It serves up it's own Wi-Fi network so that any user with a laptop/tablet/phone can connect and use the library created by the maintainer.

Install WROLPi

Full installation instructions are in INSTALL.md. Pick the option that matches your hardware:

  • WROLPi Portable (Live USB) — boot a complete WROLPi from a USB stick on any x86 PC or laptop. Nothing is installed to the computer; the first boot creates a persistence partition on the USB so your library, database, and configuration survive reboots.
  • Debian 12 — install WROLPi onto an x86 PC or laptop.
  • Raspberry Pi — install WROLPi onto a Raspberry Pi with an external drive.
  • Docker — run the WROLPi containers on an existing Linux host.

Charter

Guiding Principals

  1. Storage is cheaper than power.
  2. Two is one, one is none.
  3. Run silently.
  4. Primary, secondary, tertiary.
  5. Secure as a bookshelf in your home.

Physical properties

  1. A WROLPi instance should be capable of running with a minimal of hardware:
    • Raspberry Pi
    • SD card
    • External USB hard drive
    • Power supply and cables
    • Wi-Fi USER device such as a phone, tablet, or laptop.
  2. A WROLPi instance should consume a minimal amount of electricity during WROL event. It is expected power will be scarce when WROLPi is needed most.

User expectations

  1. A WROLPi instance should be run and maintained by a person (MAINTAINER) with a moderate amount of Linux and Raspberry Pi experience. It is expected that they should be able to do this using only the documentation on their WROLPi.

Software properties and capabilities

  1. A WROLPi instance should be able to "factory-reset" itself without any outside services.
  2. WROLPi should function completely without any internet services.
  3. A user should have easy access to their data if WROLPi fails:
    • For example, a user can watch their videos by navigating a short and intuitive directory structure and opening the video in their preferred video player.
  4. WROLPi should be self-documented. The UI should contain a tutorial for USERS as well as the MAINTAINER.
    • If the UI isn't functional, the code should be documented such that a user can restore functionality.
  5. WROLPi should favor pre-processing, rather than processing during a WROL event. Such as re-encoding a video, or processing captions. This is to ensure that when a user adds content during non-WROL time, the processing for optimum performance is already done for a WROL event.
